A Deep Dive Into Sabrina Claudio’s Music

Belong To You

Her voice is like wrapping your body with a warm sweater on a chilly fall day as her vocal timbres comfort your skin with warm colors like aqua blue, light purple and warm pink. Her low, velvety and breathy tone compliments her lyrical capabilities as the mix of the two put you in an uncontrollable trance. The soundscape allows the listener to dive deeper into their trance as you’re seduced by the soft Jazz/ alternative R&B sounds that make up her songs. Nature is an important theme that runs throughout her music as she uses it as a metaphor for love and growth. Her ability to invite the listener into her world is unmatched as Sabrina Claudio is an artist that has seemingly mastered her artform at the young age of 24.

Natural

Even at 21, she seemingly had her sound figured out as you hear on the song Frozen, off of her debut album About Time. Throughout the song, she displays a quiet confidence as she seamlessly floats through the seductive track with her effortless and pure voice mesmerising the listeners into a blissful space. Her lyricism on the song takes that bliss to another level as she likens love to nature singing,

“The flowers will be blooming/the leaves will be turning/and snow will be falling/while we’re making love”

With nature being one of the main themes of her music, on Unravel me, she uses it multiple times to describe not wanting to be in a relationship as she sings,

“It’s something in the sun or the air/ its making me want to run away from here”, and “It’s something about the season that we’re in/that’s making me think we’re not supposed to do this.”

Her introspective and self-reflective nature comes through her songwriting capabilities resulting in brutal honesty and deep lyrics which is displayed perfectly on Orion’s Belt. On it she sings,

“He studied my freckles like the constellations/and he’s looking for signs.”

The ability for a person to unabashedly be themselves is tough and even tougher when you’re in the spotlight but Sabrina Claudio is unafraid to show her true self and it shows as she grows through her music.

Confidently Lost

Her growth is mirrored in her latest album Truth Is as her sincerity throughout the album is echoed in the sentiments of this generation. She uses her voice as an instrument to display her sensitivities as it is sung in a lower and more honest tone than on her previous albums, while the soundscape is a more somber but relaxing offering. Her lyrics are much more direct as she takes the listener through her thoughts and tries to come to some sort of reconciliation between herself and the person she’s talking to. That is made clear with the track Hurt People as she sings,

“That ain’t even my intention baby/you know that you’re all that I got/and I never meant to hurt us baby/I’m just tryna learn how to love.”

Honesty is the best policy for growth, and it is clear that she is well aware of that fact. While she is trying to figure it all out, one fact remains constant which is what she said on Confidently Lost;

“I’m alone/but I’m not lonely.”
