The Dock by the Bay

I’ve sat on the dock of that bay

I’ve seen my life fading away

Every hurt that I’ve felt

Every blow that I’ve dealt

Absolve me of this - I pray

I’ve seen those ships come in

And with the tide, out again

A million lives

Only memory survives

Of what is and what has been

Sittin in that mornin’ sun

Not moving an inch until evening come

Reflect on the past

Flags at half-mast

But still I refuse to run

I sit here and rest my bones

But loneliness won’t leave me alone

A heart that’s not free

To whatever could be

A future that remains unknown

It seems like nothing will ever be changed

Unless my life is rearranged

But I guess it all starts from that dock.
